Monthly MashUp (7) Alterations - Johnny Bond
Today we'll start altering the pattern pieces needed for the Johnny Bond MashUp. But quickly, here's a reminder of the mash-a-long schedule:
Thursday 7/17: Introduce the MashUp Patterns and open the giveaway
Monday 7/21: Giveaway winner announced on Facebook and Instagram
Tuesday 7/22: Reveal the MashUp and open the link up
Tuesday 7/29: Alter the pattern pieces for the MashUp
Thursday 7/31: Sew the MashUp
Friday 8/1: Share the MashUps from the link up on Facebook and Instagram
My recommendation with any MashUp is to always make at least a muslin of both patterns per the regular instructions before mashing them together. That way you will know their individual quirks and be sure to have the correct sizing. Here you can see the originals I sewed for Bean, as well as a bit of a review of the two patterns.

Challenge Create: Knit Fabric Swap
It's my turn to share what I made for Skirt Fixation's Challenge Create: Knit Fabric Swap.
The challenge is that we were sent two yards of fabric that didn't have to be continuous, but MUST be knit, to make anything we wanted to make. Sounds easy enough right? Well sometimes when things are that wide open it can be harder to get inspired....

Monthly MashUp (7) Reveal - Johnny Bond
I hope you had a great weekend and had a chance to pick up your Johnny Bond MashUp patterns. The mash-a-long will start tomorrow! And now for the big reveal....
The Johnny B Good Hoodie from Shwin Designs and The Bond Top by Beatnik Kids when mashed together form this easy-wear hooded top with a functional bib and placket. This top is perfect for boys OR girls!
The hood and bib use a woven fabric so of course I had to use the new Pandas in Paris double gauze from Imagine Gnats. Those pandas slay me.
The body of the top uses a knit fabric so I chose some organic cotton striped jersey from Kitschy Coo. That fabric is so soft to the touch that I was actually jealous of Bean when she was wearing it the other day, hehe.
Have you done a MashUp this month? Add it to the InLinkz (*affiliate link) LinkUp below. The mash-a-long starts tomorrow, but feel free to add ANY MashUps you'd like!
And here's a quick reminder of the schedule for the mash-a-long:

Invisibility Cloak - Happy Harry Potter
In honor of Harry Potter's birthday (July 31st) Rae Gun Ramblings is running a two week long series celebrating everything Harry and the series kicks off today!
Bean is really into make believe lately so I immediately knew I wanted to make an Invisibility Cloak. She doesn't really know about Harry Potter yet, but I cannot wait until she's old enough to enjoy the book series.

Wreath Lacing Card Ornament - Christmas in July
With the heat of summer in full swing, it's hard to think about Christmas being just six months away. I've always loved the Christmas in July theme so when I heard Deb from So Sew Easy was having a felt ornament series I jumped right on in.
Bean has been pretending to "sew" everything lately (I wonder where she picked that up?) so I thought a lacing card activity would be fun. This Christmas Wreath Lacing Card Ornament is a great felt project for young kids.

Secret Waistband Pocket
Today you can find me at Imagine Gnats with a fun tutorial for a Secret Waistband Pocket.
They've shared a bunch of tutorials this week for how to adapt the new Juba Shorts patterns for men and women so take a minute to check them all out. The Secret Waistband Pocket tutorial could also be used for any waistband pattern. I hope to see you over there!

Ruffled Arch Skirt - Skirting the Issue
Three years ago the ladies from Simple Simon started this amazing month-long series called Skirting the Issue.
They dedicate the month of July to skirt tutorials that can be used to sew skirts to donate to local Foster Care Centers. If you'd like more info on how the project began you can click here. I am honored to be included in the mix with my Ruffled Arch Skirt tutorial.

Happy Fourth of July!
Tomorrow is Independence day and like many Americans my family will be celebrating with BBQ, fireworks, and friends. And of course, celebration called for another Shandiin.
