You already know I love Filles a Maman (blogged here) and Elegance & Elephants (blogged here and here), so for this tour I decided to choose a pattern from a designer I hadn't sewn something from before. I've been eyeing Jalie's patterns for some time and was excited to see they were a part of the tour. Ula has a great interview with Emilie of Jalie Patterns here.
I decided to choose the Multi-Sport Skort pattern since I've been looking for new workout gear this spring. The pattern includes the skirt, compression shorts, and hot pants. They can all be made separately or you can sew the compression shorts or hot pants as a part of the skirt to make a skort.
The hot pants are similar to a boy brief shape and are really comfortable.
The best part about Jalie patterns is the huge size range. This one pattern included sizes from smaller than Bean to larger than me. That's pretty amazing. I was worried that maybe the sizing might be off because the range is so large, but I chose the sizes according to our hip measurements as the pattern suggests and the fit was right on for both of us.
The pattern instructions are sort of a cross between Japanese pattern style and the paper patterns I grew up sewing. They are straight to the point with numbered illustrations to help along the way. Personally I love that style and was pleased to see some neat sewing techniques and details used in this skort pattern.
There's a pocket on each side of the skort which is the perfect size for holding an iphone while working out.
The fabric I used is from Sew Kinetic which I am excited to say is back open for business! I used the Supplex in sage and avocado for contrast and couldn't be more happy with the quality of the fabric.
That nice little cross over detail at the side is what I love most about the skort. I used my serger and coverstitch and they both came out so professional looking. I'm kind of excited about using the coverstitch for swimsuits this summer too!
In all of the house selling madness, my tripod was put in storage so I let Bean take a few pics with the camera and they all cracked me up! She was very excited about using the "big camera" and although most of them were blurry, I still love them.
You can see in this blurry pic that the skirt part of the skort is actually a really nice length. Not too short, but not too long either. If you made the compression shorts they would be well covered by the skirt.
To try to get a picture together, I put the camera up on the outdoor grill and used the timer. I look a little like a drunken sailor in this pic, but we had fun taking photos together. I think I'll have to get some more Jalie patterns so we can do some more photo shoots together before she's old enough to think it's lame, hehe.
