September Showcase: Meridian Cardigan

Over at Frances Suzanne, they are celebrating indie designers this month with a September Showcase as a part of their Flip This Pattern series.  I adore indie patterns, so I am thrilled to participate.  Today I'm sharing a lovely pattern by one of my favorite people, Rachael from Imagine Gnats (pssst she's competing in Project Run & Play this season and you HAVE to check out all the awesome over there and vote!!).

The Meridian is an easy fitting cardi pattern that is sold in both women's and children's sizes.  I made a couple of women's versions earlier this year, but today let's focus on the kids'.  There's the option of a collar that's super cute and you can add buttons or leave the front open.

The sizing is from 5 to 14 years, so Bean's a bit small for it yet, but I couldn't wait to make her one. I've had the pattern for months and months and I just adore mine so much I had to have one for her.

She's a 3t but I cut out the 5, shortened the sleeve a bit, and sewed with a 5/8" seam allowance instead of the recommended 1/2".  It's still a bit big, but she loves it and it looks super comfy a little oversized.

This is Bean's first year at preschool and cardigans have been crucial.  Normally it is still summer-like here in Maryland at least through the end of September, if not through October, but this year it's been chilly since the weekend after Labor Day.  I wasn't expecting to have to switch from sleeveless so soon so I am a bit ill-prepared in the layers department.  This pattern sews together so incredibly quickly that the Meridian might be a life saver.

I didn't add any closures, because I wanted her to be able to sort of wrap herself up in it when she sits down.  The fabrics are a black ponte from JoAnn that I've had in my stash for awhile and of course those jimmies from Kitschy Coo.  She's obsessed with that fabric and so am I, hehe.  In the above pic you can see that she's dreaming of eating some yummy ice cream with rainbow jimmies.

But the best part of the Meridian is that it's reversible!  Bean couldn't have been more excited when I told her to reverse the cardi.  Now it may be worn jimmies-side-out forever!  If you want your own Meridian or ANY pattern by Imagine Gnats, you can use the discount code SHOWCASE to take 20% off through the month of September.

The ladies at Frances Suzanne are also running an amazing giveaway as a part of the series so follow the rafflecopter below for your entries.
