Paneled Ash Jumpsuit

I have been planning this remix for over a month now and so excited to finally see it come together!  It's a MashUp of the Ash Jumpsuit by Celina of Petit a Petit for Willow & Co Patterns and my Paneled Sunsuit.

At the beginning of the summer, Celina (fellow Project Run & Play Season 9 contestant) sent me the Ash Jumpsuit and I couldn't wait to make one for Bean.  But then it sat in the piles of planning to makes and I never got the chance.  When I heard about the amazing contest the ladies at Willow & Co were running it was the perfect excuse to make what I had been dreaming about: an ankle length jumpsuit with the neckline of my Paneled Sunsuit.

The Ash Jumpsuit is as well written and designed as the other Willow & Co patterns I've sewn and I'm sure I'll be making another one for next summer.  The original version has a gathered halter neckline, but for this MashUp I wanted the gathered straps from the Paneled Sunsuit.

I used the color blocked panels for the neckline and tapered the shape to meet the Ash pants.  Instead of gathering the pant legs at the bottom, I made a big cuff for a more casual jumpsuit look.

Once again, I used a thin knit that I doubled up for the bottoms so they would drape nicely, but not be see through.  It's a pain to work with, but I love look and feel of the end result.

For the bodice I used a stretch sateen from JoAnn Fabrics that I fell in love with.  Breaking up the brightness of the pattern with the panels of interweave chambray helps to pull the look together.  The orchid and lagoon colored chambrays are both from Imagine Gnats and I can't get enough of them.  The colors are so beautiful.

The original Ash Jumpsuit pattern attaches the belt in a different way, but since I wanted the bodice to be fully lined I used the belt as a way to secure the lining on the inside.  I sewed the belt, bodice, and pants together first, then attached the bodice front, one edge of the belt, and the pants together all at once.  Afterward, I pressed up the belt, and when I sewed the other edge down I caught the lining on the underside, leaving a small opening in the belt through which I threaded the elastic.  Later I closed the opening with a topstitch.

Have you sewn any Willow & Co patterns yet?  They are great for back to school and I have really enjoyed mixing and matching.  The bonus of the color scheme I used in this Paneled Ash Jumpsuit is that the orchid Aster Cardigan I made works well with it too.
